My oh-so-exciting life...

Well, I'm here in the dorms while half the group is off to Paris for the weekend. Personally, I'm glad I'm home. I'll be in France for ten whole days in two weeks...and I have a nasty cold that needs caring for. We also have some upcoming papers I want to buckle down on while the computers are free.
Meanwhile, those of us at the dorms are keeping occupied. Thursday some of us went to Merlin Theatre and saw Stones in His Pockets, a wonderful Irish comedy that has a cast of thirteen played by two men. The script really is amazing, and the actors were wonderful. Tickets were only the equivalent of $5, too. It was sweet. We've also been running around the city at night, admiring its beauty while cursing the fact that no food places stay open past 11, and watching movies here. I saw Orange County last night, and I must say, it was quite good. The advertising misrepresented it as a stereotypical teen comedy, while the movie itself is quite creative and funny. Plus, it has Tom Hanks' son, which is like watching Hanks himself 30 years ago. Crazy. I recommend it to anyone in doubt about watching it.
I would NOT recommend Attack of the Clones with the same passion, however. I watched that this weekend as well, and was really disappointed. Holy cow, George Lucas, can you do any worse? The plotline is okay, but the script is so stale and trite! What's with all the stereotypical one-liners? They were the main substance of the script! The love scenes, especially, were quite unoriginal and dispassionate. And, okay...how many people auditioned for the part of Anakin? How many good actors did you probably have to choose from? Instead you pick this idiot guy who delivers all his lines in the same uptight, I'm-a-troubled-teen, HIGH SCHOOL acting. Come on. Darth Vader deserves a little better. And Padme? What happened!? Give the girl a freaking gun and have her defend herself, instead of having her run around in Anakin's shadow. She did well in the first movie...what changed? And, I'm sorry. But the white outfit? Can we be any more obvious? In case you were wondering, Georgie, most active women DON'T find it particularly enabling to be running around in white paint.
Gah!

A thought for all those I'm missing back home. It's an Irish proverb and a song I sang in high school choir. I think it's fitting.
May the road rise up to meet you
May the wind be always at your back
May the sun shine warm upon your face
May the rain fall soft upon your fields
and until we meet again, may God hold you in His hand.
